Course Description:
Introduction to EMDR Therapy is a two-part course covering the basic tenets and theories of EMDR Therapy with examination of who will benefit from the therapy. Concepts covered include the history and definition of EMDR along with the mechanism of change in EMDR, the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, and how trauma affects emotions and behavior. Further, the eight phases of EMDR therapy and a trauma-informed framework are described in order to identify those clients who would benefit from EMDR therapy including DEI considerations. Finally, the path of training and consultation to become an EMDR therapy clinician is presented.
